Am I the only one who thinks donating money is useless?

Can you answer truthseeker’s question about Fundraising?:
No matter how much people donate, there will always be people starving. Why? Because those starving people never even see a penny of it. It’s true. What good has donating money ever done? Hardly any.

Fundraising Feedback: Your logic is flawed.
You’re using as a benchmark of whether it’s done any good nor not, the fact that there is ANY starvation.
That’s like saying that since there are still murders being committed, then murder laws are useless.
Things are all or nothing in the real world.
Maybe if nobody gave money, there would be 20 times more starving people?
Fundraising Feedback: I completely agree, the majority of money donated probably goes towards the advertisments, the bell ringer’s wage, the adds on tv, or the telephone operators. It is all a hoax and they continuously complain that there is not enough money to feed the starving children. Well, the truth is that there WAS enough money until people stopped working as volunteers and took on a JOB in which they are given a WAGE, so what’s the point? I totally agree!
Fundraising Feedback: Salvation Army is known for delivering well over 70% of donated value to its intended audience and honestly using the rest to cover unavoidable expenses such as shipping the food to their starving customers. This will ONLY solve problems short term even when it does work very efficiently and people do get food because, as soon as the food runs out, people have no stable way to re-earn it.
Ultimately in the long-term the best way to save such people is to give them access to some sort of employment IE charities that help develop fair business infrastructure in such countries.
Even clothing companies that run sweatshops, sad as they are, are obviously a step up from disease and starvation…and the next step up is workers’ chipping in money along with outside funding/donations to build school systems, work toward higher jobs and attract new employers to hire in their countries, and so on until they become first-world.
Charities that do this kind of investment in developing education and business should not, for example, give through corrupt government leaders who spend the money on themselves and breach agreements to give to their people. This gets a lot more complex than I know but, I figure, if you really want to make a difference hopefully this will help your research.
Best luck….
Fundraising Feedback: I agree half-heartedly. Money can do good, but greedy charities seem to take it all up or give it to those people who do not use it to better themselves.
I give food to the Lost Dogs home every Christmas, and a present for some unknown child in the local community. It is better I think.
Fundraising Feedback: Your claim is based on an assumption without a basis. Maybe there are some charity organizations who do not deliver the money to people who need it but saying that all of them are like that is a lie. I have a lot of friends working in these organizations and I ‘know’ that the money goes there. I think that you find excuses to not to donate. If you are so suspicious, buy some food and give it to homeless people, so that you can see that you at least made someone’s day!
Fundraising Feedback: donating is not useless , yes there will always be problems thats just life . because of donations my son was able to recieve medical equipment , treatments and had a wish granted before he passed away of brainstem cancer on oct 10 2006
Fundraising Feedback: I can think of thousands of displaced residents from New Orleans whose livelihood is depending on donations right now.
Try donating to a charity that’s closer to your neighborhood and I promise you, you’ll see how big a difference, even the smallest donation, makes.
Fundraising Feedback: I won’t give money, I’ll take them into a deli and buy them a sandwich, I’ve done it many times before, and will continue to.
Fundraising Feedback: I see where you are coming from, and as sad as this is, I sort of agree with your theory. There is alot of skimming off the top before those donations are directed where they are suppose to be. However, it doesn’t have to be this way. You don’t have to donate to the big foundations with the huge expense accounts…you can look right in your own backyard and make a difference. Adopt a family in your community, donate your time, volunteer, etc. Anything is better than nothing honey, and right now, it seems that you have so much bitterness in your heart over this, that helping someone else may be the best medicine to cure your anger and outrage.
I wish you well honey and I hope you don’t stop giving…there are so many ways to give to others.
Fundraising Feedback: nope
I understand where you are coming from with giving to organizatons who spend 10 million dollars advertising they collected and donated 1 million dollars to the hungry. However, at least the 1 million dollar got to the hungry. I found a better way to help the local needy, I do not limit charity donations to one cause or another, if I walk passed someone who ask for some change, sure I give you a buck if I have one (sometimes I dont have one) If you buy a drink with it well then maybe you needed that drink to stop the shakes, or whatever the case. Its up to higher power to determine how the money is spent not me. Sometimes when I have a little extra I will place it in a place 10. where I know someone who needs it will find it. I placed 10. in help wanted section of newspaper, on the local bus, package of off brand diapers in store, inside of cat food container at the store etc. Can you even imagine someone who is down because they lost there job finding 10. in newspaper while looking for a job, or someone scraping together money for off brand diapers expression when the find the 10.00. I think it gives them hope if nothing else a smile for a moment. Thats what its all about finding hope and happiness even if only for a few minutes. Try it, it really feels good. I have never seen a u-haul following a hearse to the grave so use it to help the living.
