Is it acceptable to have a fundraiser at a bar for opening another bar?

Can you answer Patrick J’s question about Fundraising?:
Two of my friends and I are looking into opening a bar/restaurant. We can not get a full loan from the bank to cover all of the costs in opening. One friend’s suggestion was that we have a fundraiser at another popular bar in the vicinity. Is this acceptable?

Fundraising Feedback: Fundraiser sounds like some kind of charitable event. I wouldn’t be willing to donate to your private enterprise.
Do you know a bar who would allow you to do such a thing? I can’t imagine any bar or restaurant allowing a potential competitor to usurp it’s profits for any amount of time…maybe if your mother owns the bar she’d be willing to allow that.
Allowable, sure, but possible — I doubt it.
